Questions about God's WordPublished By: Gwyn(Public)Published on: 2010-08-17
At 3:00 on 89.3 there is a show on called Cris Fabry Live.  On today's show they had Micheal Rydelnick, professor of Jewish Studies at the Moody Bible Institute and Dr. Michael Vanlaningham is professor of Bible at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. He received his M.Div. in Systematic Theology from Talbot Theological Seminary and his Ph.D. in New Testament and Pauline Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.  They let callers call in and ask questions about the scriptures.  Here are a few of the questions asked.
Questions like is Satan the god of this world?  Did John the baptist fulfill the prophesy in Malachi?  What characters in scripture never died?  What is the biblical context of fasting?   Question about reincarnation (which gave me great amo for my brother who is a reincarnation believer).  What is the state of the dead?  Are the dead dead or do they go to heaven?  What happens to people who are not believers when they die?
Here is a link if you would like to listen to the answers

and if you don't listen to it today (Aug. 17) then go to the past program link

On the right hand side of the page you will see hour 1 or hour 2.  This show was on hour 2.  Very interesting, I hope you have a chance to listen.
GospelsPublished By: Barry Hendrick(Public)Published on: 2010-08-16

At first read the accounts of Jesus walking on the water appear to be different.   John also picks up something important that the others did not and that is in verse 15 "Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone."

I think all accounts are true.  Each author brings out a different point. There does appear to be a difference in Mark 6:45-48  (NKJV)  "45 Immediately He (Jesus) made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He sent the multitude away. 46 And when He had sent them(the multitude)  away, He (Jesus) departed to the mountain to pray."  and John's account in verse 15 & 16 "He(Jesus) departed again to the mountain by Himself alone.  16 Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea" This I can only see is Jesus commanded them to get into the boat, but they did not immediately obey or leave shore.  The differences in the story maybe what it is like when a traumatic event occurs, different people point out and have varying points of the same story.  But I think they all got the most important point, Jesus was walking on the water to save them!

I have been listening to an audio book on in the car on the life of Jesus.  I believe is written by an inspired author and it says.

In their enthusiasm the people are ready at once to crown Him king. They see that He makes no effort to attract attention or secure honor to Himself. In this He is essentially different from the priests and rulers, and they fear that He will never urge His claim to David’s throne...... They (the disciples and the crowd) eagerly arrange to carry out their purpose; but Jesus sees what is on foot, and understands, as they cannot, what would be the result of such a movement......... Violence and insurrection would follow an effort to place Him on the throne, and the work of the spiritual kingdom would be hindered. Without delay the movement must be checked. Calling His disciples, Jesus bids them take the boat and return at once to Capernaum, leaving Him to dismiss the people........ To His followers this seemed the golden opportunity to establish their beloved Master on the throne of Israel. In the glow of this new ambition it was hard for them to go away by themselves, and leave Jesus alone upon that desolate shore. They protested against the arrangement; but Jesus now spoke with an authority He had never before assumed toward them. They knew that further opposition on their part would be useless, and in silence they turned toward the sea........ The disciples had not put off immediately from the land, as Jesus directed them. They waited for a time, hoping that He would come to 380them. But as they saw that darkness was fast gathering, they “entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum.”..... {DA 378.3} A violent tempest had been stealing upon them, and they were unprepared for it....They forgot their disaffection, their unbelief, their impatience. Everyone worked to keep the boat from sinking. .....Until the fourth watch of the night they toiled at the oars. Then the weary men gave themselves up for lost. In storm and darkness the sea had taught them their own helplessness, and they longed for the presence of their Master..... At the moment when they believe themselves lost, a gleam of light reveals a mysterious figure approaching them upon the water.

I know I'm way ahead but reading the gospels chronologically is very interesting.  The different perspectives I mean.  The Oct. 17 and 18 readings of when Jesus walked on the water was very interesting.  Matthew and Mark's account had Jesus sending them out in the boat while John's account said that they waited on the shore for Jesus but as darkness fell and Jesus still hadn't come back, they got into the boat and headed out across the lake.  Only Matthews account of the story told of Peter walking on the water.  Why would the others fail to mention something so significant!  And only John said that as soon as Jesus got into the boat they immediately arrived at their destination!  That is pretty significant as well for the others to leave out.  Things that make you go hmmmm.
New Heaven & EarthPublished By: Barry Hendrick(Public)Published on: 2010-07-31

Our bible reading brought a question to me.

In Isaiah 65:17,18,25 (NKJV)  it says "17 “ For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.  18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; For behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, and her people a joy....... 25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent’s food.   They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,”  Says the LORD."

2 Peter 3:4, 10-14 (NIV)  They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised?......But the day of the Lord will come like a thief.  The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.  Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?  You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.  That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.   So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.

My question is this if the new heaven and new earth is created after Jesus has come again, its sounds like in Isaiah 66 that the Sabbath will be kept by all mankind in the new heaven and earth.

Isaiah 66:15,16,22,23 (NIV) See, the LORD is coming with fire, and his chariots are like a whirlwind;        he will bring down his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.  For with fire and with his sword the LORD will execute judgment upon all men, and many will be those slain by the LORD........"As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me," declares the LORD, "so will your name and descendants endure.   From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me," says the LORD.

Matthew 5:18,19 (NIV) I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law (ten commandments) until everything is accomplished.  Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Creator not wearyPublished By: Barry Hendrick(Public)Published on: 2010-07-26

Isaiah 40:28 (NKJV) "The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary."

Why did the Creator rest on the seventh day at creation if He is never weary? (Genesis 2:1-3)  Is it because the Sabbath was made for man?  (Mark 2:27)  Is that why he blessed the 7th day to be a reminder of His creation?  This is how I read this verse.  Reading the bible through this year I see God quoted many times God saying, I am your God who made the heavens and the earth.  Is this also our God who made the heaven and the earth?
